We encourage all schools to work to develop a positive school culture. Consistency is the key to effectiveness.

 

Culture Checklist:

 

1.       Review how to sharpen pencils

2.Discuss when and how to throw trash away during class

3.Talk about expectations for transitions between classes, lunch and electives

4.      Discuss expectations for lunch room behavior

5.Review appropriate voice levels – noise level 1 (cooperative groups), noise level 2 (lunch room) or noise level 3 (outside)…

6.Review PBS reward system

7.   Review PBS consequence system

8.Discuss restroom procedures and structured times for use

9.Go over basic school policies

10.  Review cell phone use

11.   Discuss policies on gum, sunflower seeds, snacks, etc.

12.   Review SPARK (a way to remind kids to stay on task)

·         Sit up straight

·         Pay Attention

·         Ask and answer questions

·         Respect all

·         Keep tracking the speaker

13.   Practice attention grabbers

14.  Demonstrate what QUALITY work and homework should look like

15.   Practice organization skills

16.   Discuss study skills

17.   Talk about the importance of eye contact

18.   Remind students that attention stays on academics even when a visitor enters the room

19.   Discuss attitude adjustments – smacking lips, rolling eyes, etc…

20.  Role play good and bad behaviors

21.   Role play how to raise hands with enthusiasm

22.  Practice character building

23.  Practice CHANTS

24.  Discuss what does it mean to be part of a team

25.  Review dismissal and entering the building procedures

26.  Review how to ask and answer questions

27.  Discuss homework expectations – parent signature is non-negotiable

28.  Discuss bullying

29.  Review dress code

30.  Discuss the importance of an education

31.   Talk about college preparation, even with Pre-K students!

32.  Discuss what it mean to Work Hard and Be Nice!  J
