Students participate in peace-building activites to commemorate International Peace Day.

Today, in a celebration of International Peace Day, the Recovery School District joined the Juvenile Justice Project of Louisiana and Families and Friends of Louisiana's Incarcerated Children in a call to action to promote peace and conflict resolution. At Success Academy at Schwarz, for example, students participated in peace building classroom activities and an late morning assembly that included readings and the release of purple and gold balloons representing their school colors as a way to symbolize peace from their community.
As part of Peace One Day, students discussed ways to end street violence and address conflict in a peaceful way through various education strategies. Students also strived for a day of no suspensions and no expulsions.
Peace Day is a day of non-violence and ceasefire, a 24 hour-long platform for life-saving activities around the world.
As students of the RSD participated in school-wide and classroom peace building activities they urged the community at-large to join with them by engaging in a peace building action/activity on their jobs, in their homes, and in their communities.
